Police serving a search warrant on a San Francisco home Sunday were shocked to find what could be a valuable piece of evidence in the refrigerator: a severed human head.

The gruesome discovery occurred during a search of a home in the city’s Outer Sunset neighborhood, says Sgt. Michael Andraychak. A body with no head was also “located in an apartment,” Andraychak says, although he says investigators have not confirmed the two are related.

Although police have released no further details in the case, neighbors say the home belongs to Catono Perez, who hasn’t been seen since April 10th. One, David Charbonneau, says he fears the worse. “Catono was just a sweet, loving, honest, open, good-hearted person,” he says. “We all loved him very much and this is a tragedy.”
