Florida Plans For Dealing With COVID-19 In A Hurricane

With more than 37,000 confirmed coronavirus cases and nearly 1,500 deaths, Florida already has enough on its plate at the moment.

But with the start of hurricane season less than a month away, the Sunshine State now has to contend with the potential fallout of a storm striking during the pandemic.

Gov. Ron DeSantis revealed Tuesday that officials are working with the federal government on a plan for how the state handles evacuations and sheltering.

Since the virus is transmitted in close quarters, one idea would be to have some shelters only take in evacuees who have tested positive for COVID-19, while depending on the severity of the situation, having others shelter in place.
