Doing the right thing has turned a New Mexico college student into a minor celebrity.

Stopping off at an ATM last week, Jose Nuñez Romaniz saw a huge pile of $20s and $50s next to the machine, totalling up to $135,000.

Rather than pocket the cash and go on a spending spree, the 19-year-old called the cops, which earned him a large amount of praise on Thursday.

Albuquerque’s police chief gave Romaniz a plaque to thank him for his actions, with the department inviting him to apply as a public service aide. He was then presented with tons of sports memorabilia, season tickets for UNM football, plus several hundred dollars in gift cards from local businesses.
