Days after German Chancellor Angela Merkel loosened social restrictions, the country’s infection rose, according to The Daily Mail.

The reproduction rate of infection, or the number of people that an infected person infects has risen to 1.1 The Robert Koch Institute for disease control notes that any time the reproduction rate goes above 1, that means the number of infections is increasing.

The institute said on Sunday that Germany’s new Coronavirus cases increased by a daily 667 to 169,218.

Merkel has allowed for an “emergency brake” should the infection rate increase, which would reimpose the country’s previous restrictions.
