The coronavirus death toll in the U.S. is approaching 80,000 with the total number of cases surpassing 1.3 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Those milestones are reached as many parts of the country begin reopening the economy, which some analysts fear will lead to a new wave of infections.

Researchers at the University of Washington have updated their projection model to predict a death toll of 137,000 by August.
