Residents in areas of upstate New York are counting down the days to Friday. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that a phased-in reopening will start with construction, manufacturing and whole sale supply companies. Some retail will be allowed with curbside pickup.

Other sectors could be allowed to reopen in two weeks if there isn’t an uptick in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

The Hill reports the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier and Mohawk Valley regions have met the requirements of a 14-day drop in deaths and new cases along with increased testing and contact tracing.

New York has been hit hardest in the US with more than 335,000 confirmed cases and more than 26,000 deaths.
