Closed Bathrooms Leave NJ Parks Overflowing with Urine, Feces

The decision to open New Jersey parks, but to leave the bathrooms closed to avoid spreading the coronavirus, has left state officials with a mess to clean up.

The head of the New Jersey State Police says an “inordinate amount” of urine and feces was left behind in state parks over the weekend. “There is a zero-tolerance policy for that,” says Colonel Patrick Callahan, who says pee and poop have been found loose and in bottles. “The whole idea behind the parks is to give our citizens the ability to go out there and enjoy fresh air and have time outside.”

Governor Phil Murphy is apparently just as disgusted by the surplus of human waste. On Monday, he backed Callahan’s “zero tolerance” comment, saying anyone caught using a park as a toilet would be ticketed and fined.
