On top of the coronavirus pandemic, Mexico is dealing with a sudden rash of deaths caused by tainted alcohol.

More than 70 people have died in recent weeks due to bootleg alcohol purchased on the black market after the Mexican government banned alcohol sales in order to discourage people from holding parties and other large gatherings.

At least 20 deaths have been tied to ‘refino’, a cheap moonshine sold made in mountain towns.
