Three Sacramento residents are behind bars after police found that a box in the back of their pickup contained five children.
The discovery was made in Needles, California earlier this week after a motorist called police to say he’d seen the box moving as the truck barrelled down Interstate 40, authorities say. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies stopped the pickup, and — sure enough — they found five kids, ages 1 to 13, in the small crate. Deputies say the kids had no safety restraints, water or ventilation in the box, where it was more than 100 degrees.
Kenneth Standridge, 40, Zona Brasier, 39, and Aushajuan Hardy, 41, were arrested and charged with five counts of child endangerment, records indicate. They’re also facing drug-related charges for narcotics and paraphernalia that were found in the cab, according to their arrest report. The kids were taken by Family Services.
