De Blasio Pledges to Shift Funding From NYC Police to Social Services

NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio announced on Sunday that he is pledging to cut funding for the NYPD and reallocate money to the youth and social services.

Currently the annual NYPD budget is $6 billion.

Defunding the police has been one of the top demands among activists across the country.

De Blasio did not say how much he plans to divert only saying it will take place in his next budget.

De Blasio said, the details will be worked out in the budget process in the weeks ahead but I want people to understand that we are committed to shifting resources to ensure that the focus is on our young people.
