In an increase that’s shocked health experts across the country, Florida officials on Friday revealed the state has shattered its single-day record for COVID-19 cases, adding 1,902 to its total.

The new cases, recorded between Thursday and Friday, bring the state’s tally to almost 71,000. The record-breaking number comes just one day after Thursday’s count broke the state’s previous record.

The disturbing count came as Governor Ron DeSantis revealed he’s preparing to allow businesses in Palm Beach County — which reports 8,209 active cases — to expand their operations as the state moves into Phase 2 of its reopening plan.
