During a campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma Saturday, President Trump asked two Republican Senators in attendance to draft legislation criminalizing flag burning.

While the President said he is “a big believer in freedom of speech” he called flag burning “a desecration” adding “We ought to come up with legislation that if you burn the American flag you go to jail for one year.”

Trump had previously said that he wanted the Supreme Court to review 1989’s Texas v. Johnson ruling that made flag burning constitutionally protected speech.
