Amtrak service from Chicago to St. Louis will soon be a faster trip

Amtrak has received the green light to begin 110 mile per hour service on its line between Chicago and St. Louis. IDOT says the speed will increase on most of the corridor between Joliet and Alton. Crain’s reports trains were held at 90 miles per hour for several years while improvements approved during the Obama administration were completed. The higher speeds will start as a trial and if all goes well trains should arrive in St. Louis 20 minutes faster that the current 5 hours and six minutes.
