Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks will be presented with the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance for his strength and resilience in fighting non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
The award honors college basketball coach Jimmy Valvano, who delivered the famous “Don’t give up, don’t ever up” ESPY speech after his cancer diagnosis.
Hendriks shared his diagnosis back in January, and announced in April that he was in remission. He then made his return to the mound back on May 29th. Hendriks has been on the injured list with an elbow injury, but has now been approved to start throwing again.
