The new double-track runs 26 miles from Gary to Michigan City, Indiana. The 650 million dollar project will dramatically reduce travel times in Northwest indiana. It will also make safety improvements at grade crossings and platform improvements at five stations. There are more improvements on the way, the 950 million dollar West Lake project will be complete next spring. The two projects combined are expected to create 6000 new jobs and an economic impact of 5 billion dollars by 2048.
