Another sign fall is upon Chicago

Chicago’s 27 bridges will be lifted twice a week to allow boats to head to winter storage from Lake Michigan. The Chicago Department of Transportation says lifts will take place every Wednesday and Saturday until Nov. 13. The bridges will be raised in succession from Lake Shore Drive to the Ashland Avenue Bridge on the South Branch of the Chicago River. The bridge lifts are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. Saturdays– each takes between 8 and 12 minutes to fully lift.
