It’s still slow going in the investigation into the death of a suburban Chicago police officer who was shot while pursuing three suspects, but a few new details were released Thursday.
Commander George Filinko of the Lake County Major Crime Task Force confirms that Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was shot with his own gun and there were indications of a struggle at the scene, but the results of a gun shot residue test aren’t very revealing.
“The weapon could’ve been fired by Lt. Gliniewica or he could have been in a close proximity of the weapon being fired,” Filenko said.
Officials are still running DNA tests and awaiting ballistic test results. They say Gliniewicz was at the scene on foot 20 minutes prior to being shot. He had previously been asked to keep an eye on the area because of vandalism.
Filenko says they are still investigating Gliniewicz’s death as a homicide.
