Park Forest cop acquitted in beanbag shooting of World War II vet

(Chicago)   Park Forest Police Officer Craig Taylor was acquitted on a reckless conduct charge Wednesday for firing a shotgun loaded with beanbags at a knife-wielding agitated World War II vet living in a nursing home.

John Wrana — just 12 days shy of his 96th birthday — died hours later from the injuries he suffered in the July 26, 2013 incident at the Victory Centre of Park Forest, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Police were called to the retirement home after Wrana refused to be checked for a urinary tract infection and grew more and more irritable, threatening workers and other senior citizens.

Taylor, 44, was just taking orders from his superiors when he fired, defense attorney Terry Ekl had argued during the bench trial at the Markham courthouse.
