(CHICAGO) Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel talked up 500 more cops but not how to pay for them, universal mentoring for at-risk 8th, 9th & 10th graders and a new law now to just “encourage” judges to sentence repeat gun offenders to the upper range of the sentencing guidelines. He got controversial when he argued that the street violence is NOT the gangbangers fault.
“I know this about the kids of Chicago, they haven’t had a choice. It’s been forced on them. You give the kids of Chicago a good, positive, moral choice where they can have a future or a negative one, our kids will pick the positive good one,” said Mayor Emanuel.
Speeches don’t stop Street crime but for decades Chicago mayors have used them to show they’re trying to do something about it.
