(KANE, Co.) A bicyclist was kiled after being thrown from a bicycle in a crash in northwest suburban Kane County Monday afternoon, police said.
About 4:10 p.m., a 2009 Honda CRV traveling south was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Walker and Allen roads in incorporated Hampshire Township, according to a statement from the Kane County sheriff’s office.
The car was driving through the intersection when a bicyclist hit the passenger’s side door and the rider was thrown from the bicycle, police said. The rider, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver, a 64-year-old man, was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital in Elgin with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. He was ticketed for failure to yield right of way.
The identity of the bicyclist is being withheld pending family notification, police said.
Police do not believe drugs or alcohol factored in the crash.
