(CHICAGO) Friday’s speculation has turned out to be reality as Zachary Fardon has resigned from the position of U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.
The Trump administration last week asked for the resignation of 46 U.S. attorneys. Fardon was appointed to the post in October of 2013 and oversaw a number of significant cases in his three years of service. His tenure will likely be best remembered for the indictment of former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert, who is now serving jail time for bank fraud that he committed to cover up allegations of sexual abuse of teenagers while he was a wrestling coach at Yorkville High School. Hastert later acknowledged the abuse in court.
Joel Levin has become the acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. Levin spent 28 years as a federal prosecutor and has played roles in a number of high profile cases.
