(NEW YORK) Former White Sox star Adam LaRoche is speaking out for the first time on camera, about his sudden decision to retire from baseball, and leave $13 million on the table.
LaRoche told ABC’s “Good Morning America” he has “zero regrets” about quitting the Sox, after he says team Executive Vice President Kenny Williams told him he could no longer bring LaRoche’s 14 year old son Drake, to the locker room.
“I haven’t lost an ounce of sleep,” LaRoche said of his decision. “I mean, I have zero regrets.”
LaRoche says Williams confronted him about Drake’s continued presence at spring training in what LaRoche calls a “a short, heated conversation.”
“He just said you know, enough’s enough. I don’t want to see your son around here anymore.”
Williams has denied ordering LaRoche to never bring his son to the locker room, saying only that he asked the player to “dial it back.”
When asked about the enormity of giving up $13 million, LaRoche said ” I learned a long time ago, no matter how much we have, it’s never enough. Who doesn’t need 13 million? You know what I’m saying? I get that it’s an absurd amount of money.”
LaRoche also plans to continue his work fighting child trafficking in Asia. He spent 10 days undercover in the red light districts of southeast Asia, working with a non-profit organization to help victims of sex trafficking.
