A Chicago man has pleaded guilty to his role in a celebrity hacking scandal.
Edward Majerczyk admitted in court to hacking the emails of at least 30 celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton and others.
The Sun-Times reports that he pleaded guilty Tuesday to accessing a protected computer without authorization, a charge that carries a maximum of five years in prison, though federal prosecutors have promised to seek only a nine-month sentence. While he admitted to the hacks, authorities have said that there is no evidence Majerczyk actually leaked the photographs tied to the “Celebgate” scandal where nude photos of dozens of celebrities were leaked online in 2014.
In all, prosecutors say Majerczyk accessed the iCloud and Gmail accounts of more than 300 people.
