Subject: [BULK] Friday AM Mayoral Announcement — Crowdsourcing a Blackhawks video for Boston's website
Hi all,
Friday morning we are undertaking a special project and we need the assistance of Chicagoans around the city.
As you may remember, Mayor Emanuel made a bet with Mayor Menino of Boston about the outcome of the 2013 Stanley Cup. Well, as part that wager, Chicago has won the right to take over Boston’s website for a single day with a video. The Mayor has decided that the people of Chicago are the city’s best advocates and therefore the most qualified to create this video. So we're going to crowdsource it.
We are launching a campaign on Friday morning which will last until August 5th, during which Chicagoans will be asked to show why they love Chicago by submitting photos and vidoes. Using the #stanleycupvideo hashtag on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter to tag their videos and photos. We will choose the most creative entries for inclusion in the video, citing the winning fans, and the result, we think, will be a wonderful video about why Chicago is such a great city that we can send over to Beantown for a day.
Suggested posts include:
• Photos or videos of favorite places in Chicago
• Looking into a camera and describing why you love Chicago
• Take us on a tour of your neighborhood
• Interview your friends, family and neighbors
• Share a great Blackhawks or other Chicago memory
• Or anything else that can be imagined!
Again, the deadline is August 5th, 2013. The hashtag is #stanleycupvideo. Videos can also be submitted by email to [email protected].
It would be great if you can help promote this on your morning broadcasts and in your publications. Feel free to accept videos through your websites, if you'd like, and feel free to create your own as well. We appreciate your help and we think this is going to be a great way to show off a very proud city.
Chris Kuc, Hockey writer for the Chicago Tribune, joined the show to talk Blackhawks. The 2013-2014 season schedules was supposed to be released this week but has yet to happen. The problem with releasing the schedule is figuring out if the players can play in the 2014 Winter Olympics. With many of the key players potentially playing for their countries, Lou and the guys want to know if Hawks fans should be worried. Well, what happened last time the Hawks players played in the Olympics during the season? They won the Stanley Cup. Don’t worry Hawks fans!
We had breaking news during the show that the City Plan Commission APPROVED the $500 million revamp for Wrigley Field, which is the second oldest ballpark in America. 44th Ward Alderman Tom Tunney surprised everyone with an endorsement of the plan. The revamp plan includes a 175 room hotel, a four-screen digital advertising board, and a pedestrian bridge that will stretch over Clark Street.
Tune in tomorrow at 5PM to hear the top sports stories around Chicago and the country!
Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith had some choice comments for a female Vancouver radio reporter following the Hawks' 3-1 loss to the Canucks. Listen to their exchange and tell us what you think…is Duncan Keith sexist?
The birthday boy, Lou Canellis, has the day off. Rafer Weigel of ABC 7 hosts with Roe Conn and Richard Roeper.
The Chicago Blackhawks eye history as they could tie the NHL record of consecutive games without a loss in regulation. The Hawks are 12-0-3 and own the best record in the NHL. Along with an explosive offense, the defense has been a large part of their winning ways but tonight they will be missing one of their best defensemen, Brent Seabrook.
The Vancouver Canucks who handed the Blackhawks one of their three losses, visit the United Center tonight.
The Chicago Bulls visit the Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Hornet tonight in their first game since the All-Star break. Derrick Rose is occupying much of the Bulls news, as he participated in five-on-five for the first time this season. No return date has been set for Rose, who is recovering from an ACL injury.
