Stevenson ramp closures start Wednesday night

(CHICAGO) Several nightly lane and ramp closures are planned on the Stevenson Expressway starting Wednesday night for ongoing Lake Shore Drive interchange construction.

The northbound I-55 entrance ramp from State Street and the northbound I-55 exit ramp to King Drive will be closed from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday, according to a statement from the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The right lane of the northbound Stevenson will then close at midnight, and intermittent stops in the northbound lanes will occur starting at 1 a.m., IDOT said. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.

Additional closures are planned early Friday. The ramp from the northbound Stevenson to southbound Lake Shore Drive will be closed from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m., IDOT said. A detour will direct northbound traffic to exit the Stevenson at 18th Street to access southbound Lake Shore Drive.

The closures are part of a stage change during the ongoing I-55/Lake Shore Drive Interchange Reconstruction Project, according to IDOT. In the new traffic pattern, ramps from the northbound Stevenson to northbound and southbound Lake Shore Drive will split further west from the split’s current location, requiring drivers to choose a designated ramp sooner.

Drivers should expect delays in the area and allow for extra travel time, IDT said. The interchange project is expected to be finished in the fall of 2017.

On westbound I-90, one lane will close at 10 p.m. and a second lane will close at 11 p.m., with traffic shifting to the right, the tollway said. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m.

(CHICAGO) This is the final weekend of closures on Chicago expressways as reconstruction of the Jane Byrne Circle Interchange picks up again today.

The outbound Eisenhower at the interchange will close at 10 this evening. Traffic can still access the I-90/94 ramps, but a detour will direct traffic to the outbound Dan Ryan and the 18th Street interchange to access the outbound Eisenhower via the inbound Ryan.

The inbound Kennedy between Ohio and Harrison will be reduced to one lane at 8 p.m. Saturday, but unlike the last three weekends, no full stops will be required. All inbound Kennedy lanes should be reopened by 10 a.m. Sunday. All lanes on all expressways will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

Here Nick Gale’s report for WLS News radio here:

The closures are necessary so steel beams can be installed to support the deck of the new flyover bridge linking the inbound Ryan to the outbound Eisenhower.

This is forth and final weekend of closures.

Lane closures, repairs coming to 4 Tri-State toll plazas

(GREEN OAKS) Long-term lane closures on the Tri-State Tollway start this week as crews begin making repairs to four toll plazas in the northern suburbs.

Crews will be repairing guardrails, barrier walls, curbs, gutters and entrance ramps at Buckley Road, Townline Road, Half Day Road and Lake Cook Road, according to the Illinois Tollway.

I-PASS lanes on the tollway (I-94) will remain available throughout the construction, but drivers paying by cash will be directed to pay online when lanes with coin machines are closed, the tollway said. No more than one toll collection lane will be closed at a time.

The construction project will begin at Buckley Road near Green Oaks and Townline Road near Lake Forest, the tollway said. Those two plazas will see toll lane closures starting this week through Memorial Day weekend.

Work at the Half Day Road plaza near Lincolnshire starts May 4, and continues into early summer, the tollway said. Work begins later in May at the Lake Cook Road plaza near Northbrook and will last into the summer.

Drivers using cash have seven days to pay missed tolls online at www.illinoistollway.com.

Closures begin Wednesday on Washington Street in the Loop

(CHICAGO) Lanes closures will begin Wednesday on Washington Street between Wacker and Clark as part of the Loop Link project, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.

Beginning early Wednesday, crews will shift all traffic on eastbound Washington into two lanes along the north side of the street.

During the closures, all curbside loading and parking on Washington will be eliminated within the construction zone between Wacker and Clark, according to CDOT. However, access will be maintained to alleys and parking lots.

Additionally, the right turn from Washington to LaSalle will be eliminated.

Lane closures currently in place on Madison from Michigan to Wacker will remain in effect.

The Loop Link project is designed to modernize the downtown transit infrastructure, make bus travel faster and more reliable, and create a separation of bus, bike and regular traffic on a circuit between Union Station and Millenium Park. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.
