Man charged with stealing $150K from Edgewater condo association

(CHICAGO) A property manager is facing federal charges for allegedly pocketing more than $150,000 in illegal fees from a condominium association in the North Side Edgewater neighborhood.

Alan P. Gold, 65, was arrested Nov. 9 and charged with one count of mail fraud, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

Gold, owner and operator of A.P. Gold Realty & Management Inc., had authority over the condo association’s bank accounts, prosecutors said. He was supposed to draw a monthly $650 fee for management services such as collecting special assessments and paying utility providers.

Prosecutors said Gold over-billed the association by withdrawing multiple $650 checks in the same month and tapping into the association’s reserve fund to write “substantially higher” checks to himself. He is accused of stealing $154,271 from the association between 2010 and 2014.

He also tried to conceal the fraud by providing fraudulent monthly statements to the association that showed their account balances higher than they actually were, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

If convicted of the mail fraud charge, Gold could face a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison, according to prosecutors.

While Tyler has been threatening to drop a full country album on us for a while now, he did come with a solo country single over the winter called “Red, White and You”. There is still not a release date or title for the upcoming release. Backing him on the project is the Nashville band “Loving Mary” and that’s who we’ll see him with in Chicago.

The shows will come VH-1 “Storytellers” style, a format in which he’ll weave in anecdotes about the music as he mixes Aerosmith classics with his new material.

UPDATE: 31 charged with disorderly conduct after Edgewater standoff

(CHICAGO) Thirty-one of the 33 people arrested after a five-hour standoff with SWAT officers Friday night in the North Side Edgewater neighborhood have been charged with disorderly conduct.

Thirteen men, 17 women and a female juvenile all face single misdemeanor counts, police said on Sunday. Additional charges weren’t immediately available for two other people arrested after the barricade situation that started about 11:20 p.m.

Rogers Park District officers pulled over a vehicle for a minor traffic violation in the 6300 block of North Lakewood, police said.

During the traffic stop, people started yelling at the officers out the window of a nearby second-floor apartment where a party was taking place, police said. At the same time, shots rang out nearby, and initial reports mistakenly indicated that the shots were directed at police.

Further investigation revealed that the shots actually came from the rear of the building and were not aimed at the officers, police said.

When police asked the apartment’s occupants to open the door, they refused, resulting in a barricade situation that ended when a SWAT team forced entry about 5 a.m., police said.

All of the apartment’s occupants – 18 women, 14 men and a juvenile girl – surrendered once the SWAT team entered and were taken into custody, according to police.

A firearm and spent shell casings were also found inside the apartment, police said.

A CTA bus was parked on Devon Avenue just west of Sheridan Road overnight to provide warmth for residents who were evacuated from the apartment complex.

Darryl Ford, who lives on the ground floor of the two-story building, had guests over for the NBA Playoffs when he heard the gunshots.

“We’re just sitting there watching the [Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers] game, and then all the sudden, bam bam bam bam bam,” Ford said.

At first, he thought the gunshots came from the alley, but police told him the shooter was aiming for officers, Ford said. There was a party being thrown in the unit above his at the time of the shooting and he said he could hear several people walking around when officers got to the scene.

Ford added that police initially told residents of the building to stay in their units until the situation was resolved, but they were eventually led to the warming bus.
