(CHICAGO) The is some forward movement on a proposed rail line from Indiana to Wisconsin.
The 287 mile line is aimed at relieving freight rail congestion in Chicago. The federal Surface Transportation Board wants more information on the proposal including how many trains would run on the line. The board also wants to know how the proposed Great Lakes Basin Railroad would tie into the South Shore Freight Railroad, the length of trains and the speed that they would travel.
The line essentially make an outer loop to the west of Chicago and would end up just west of Rockford.
Meanwhile, hundreds gathered at a farm in Winnebago Thursday to demonstrate their opposition to the railroad. Farmers would be impacted the most as the line would run through farmland.
