(PALATINE) A man died Sunday evening after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a car that turned in front of him in northwest suburban Palatine.
Officers responded shortly after 1 p.m. to the crash on North Rand Road and East Winslowe Drive, according to Palatine police.
Corey Hindes, 54, was driving the motorcycle north on Rand and entering the intersection with Winslowe on a green light when a southbound Mercedes car attempted to turn left in front of the bike, authorities said. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of the Mercedes.
Hindes, who lived in the 300 block of East Knob Hill Drive in Arlington Heights, was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 7:06 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Monday determined he died of blunt force head injuries he suffered in the crash and his death was ruled an accident.
The driver of the Mercedes, an 89-year-old man from Mount Prospect, was cited for failing to yield while turning left, police said. He was scheduled to appear in court Nov. 1.
The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team is assisting Palatine police in the investigation.
