(CHICAGO) Spectators lined State Street this afternoon for the annual Columbus Day parade.
The 63rd annual parade kicked off at 12:30 p.m. from Wacker and State. There were plenty of politicians on hand but one who was missed was the late Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka who passed away in December. She was a politician always up for a parade. Her son Joseph was one of this year’s parade marshals. He is trying to preserve her legacy.
“Any community colleges that I can start scholarships with, I will do that because mom was about kids going to school,” Topink a said. “Community colleges are a great way for kids, if they can’t afford a four year [school], they can go to a community college.”
He adds he want to promote civility, ethics and good government.
