Armed robberies reported in Wicker Park, North Center

(CHICAGO) Police are warning residents about a series of armed robberies this month at the constructions sites of new homes in the Wicker Park and North Center neighborhoods.

The robberies were reported at 9:25 a.m. Oct. 7 and 4 p.m. Oct. 18 in the 1400 block of North Oakley as well as 10 a.m. Oct. 7 in the 3900 block of North Claremont, according to a community alert from Chicago Police. All of the robberies occurred at the sites of new homes being built.

The suspect was described as a 26 to 30-year-old man between 5-foot-4 and 5-foot-8, weighing 150 to 170 pounds, with a stocky build, according to police. He was wearing blue jeans and a dark blue jacket or hooded sweatshirt labeled “CHICAGO.”

A second suspect was also seen running away after one of the robberies, but there was no description available for that person, police said.

Police: Bicyclist fatally struck by truck in North Center

(CHICAGO) A bicyclist was fatally struck by a truck Monday morning in the North Center neighborhood, according to Chicago Police.

The small flatbed truck was heading north on Damen and took a right turn onto Addison and struck the bicyclist about 7:50 a.m., who was also heading north on Damen, according to police.

The bicyclist, thought to be a woman in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the truck remained at the scene, police said.

The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is looking into the crash.

Cops: Teens on bikes robbing people in North Center

(CHICAGO) Chicago Police are cautioning North Center residents after a pair of strong-arm robberies earlier this month.

About 10:15 p.m. on Oct. 2, four teens riding 10-speed bicycles rode up to a person in the 3200 block of North Campbell and demanded their cell phone, according to a community alert from Town Hall District detectives.

They were between 17 and 19 years old, and one of their bikes was neon green, police said.

A week later, they made off with more phones in a similar robbery in the 3400 block of North Rockwell, police said.

About 10:50 p.m. on Oct. 9, three robbers between 16 and 17 years old—one of them on a silver road bike—carried out the robbery in a park, police said.

Police warn of North Center garage burglaries

(CHICAGO) Police are warning residents of the North Center neighborhood about a string of recent garage burglaries.

In four recent incidents, burglars stole property from garages, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

The burglaries happened:
• at an unknown time between April 3 and 7 in the 1900 block of West Roscoe;
• between 5:30 p.m. April 5 and 6:30 a.m. April 6 in the 1900 block of West Newport;
• between 7 p.m. April 5 and 8:30 a.m. April 6 in the 3400 block of North Leavitt; and
• between 6:30 p.m. April 16 and 8 a.m. April 17 in the 2200 block of West Melrose.
