Arrest made in Illinois State Fair stabbing

(CHICAGO) Illinois State Police say a 17-year-old girl has been arrested in the weekend stabbing of a 16-year-old girl at the Illinois State Fair.

A statement from the agency says the stabbing occurred Saturday night in the carnival area of the fair in Springfield.

The brief statement says the 16-year-old girl was expected to be released from the hospital Sunday. It describes the incident as “isolated.”

The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, the Springfield Police Department and the Conservation police are helping in the investigation.

The 10-day fair was scheduled to end Sunday.

Man Kills Wife, Walks Into Traffic

(PLAINFIELD, IL) The Will County Coroner has identified a Plainfield North High School teacher who police say was fatally stabbed by her husband.
Police found 47-year-old Susan Cunningham unresponsive inside her home Tuesday night. She was not breathing and had been stabbed several times. She was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Cunningham taught physical education and health at Plainfield North High School. District officials say she had been with the school since 2006 and previously taught at Plainfield Central from 2002-2006. She had been on medical leave this year.
Police say after the stabbing,  46-year-old Craig Cunningham was fatally struck by a vehicle on I-55 just north of Route 126.
The Will County coroner’s office says he walked into traffic before he was hit.

UPDATE: Police: Woman dead, two men injured in Lincoln Square stabbing

(CHICAGO) Three people were stabbed Monday afternoon — one fatally — during a domestic-related fight  in the North Side Lincoln Square neighborhood, officials said.

The stabbing happened about 3:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of West Windsor, police said.

During a fight, a male armed with a knife stabbed a 20-year-old woman and two men, ages 19 and 21, according to police and Chicago Fire Department spokesman Jeff Lyle.

The woman was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, Lyle said. The Cook County medical examiner’s office had not been notified Monday evening.

The two men were each taken to area hospitals. The 21-year-old was in fair condition, and the 19-year-old had non-life-threatening lacerations to his face, authorities said.

Police said a person of interest was being questioned Monday evening.

Man charged with stabbing woman to death on Far South Side

(CHICAGO) A man has been charged with stabbing a woman to death during a domestic incident Sunday on the Far South Side.

Chris Moore, 57, is charged with first-degree murder for the death of 48-year-old Janice Coleman, authorities said.

Officers were called about noon Sunday to a home in the 11300 block of South Parnell, where Coleman was found dead, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy on Monday found she died of multiple stab wounds and her death was ruled a homicide.

Police said the murder is domestic-related, but did not provide additional details.

Moore, of the 11100 block of South Lowe, is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.

Man stabbed to death during Super Bowl party on Near South Side

(CHICAGO) A man was stabbed to death Sunday night when he attempted to intervene in a couple’s argument during a Super Bowl party on the Near South Side.

Antonio Gamboa, 23, was at a party in the 2300 block of South Michigan about 8 p.m. when he saw the couple arguing, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

When he tried to stop the argument, the boyfriend stabbed him in the abdomen, police said.

Gamboa, of the 1600 block of North Kimball, was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The boyfriend, 28, also suffered stab wounds and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said. The girlfriend was not injured.

A police source said the party was a Super Bowl celebration.

Charges were pending against the boyfriend as he remained hospitalized Monday morning, police said.
